Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth normally erupt when some one has matured, they are the last four teeth on either sides of the jaw, they are found on both lower and upper jaw. Occasionally, these teeth are prone to dental diseases thus when they cause discomfort and unbearable pain, they can be pulled out.
These teeth are also known as chewing teeth or molars. Every human being has the first, second and the third molars respectively. Individual’s third molars are the wisdom teeth which occur at teenage age mostly.

The pulling out of wisdom teeth has become so rampant. The wisdom teeth can be pulled out when it has failed to emerge fully into its expected position. This problem may occur due to lack of space or room in the persons jaw that can accommodate it, or it may occur when the angulations of the tooth is not correct. When the tooth has been impacted mesially, it can be pulled out. This means its erupting towards the front of the mouth. Wisdom teeth can occur vertically or horizontally.

If Wisdom teeth are to be extracted it is explained to an individual by the dentist after carrying out an examination which may include dental x-rays. From statistics, there are some specific factors that relate to ones age that put the patient in problem prone to complications. The thumb rule states that the younger the age of the person having the wisdom teeth extractions, the less potential they will have for experiencing complications. Researches have revealed that the number of complications related to healing as well as the procedure itself, that appear in association with wisdom tooth extractions increases once a patient has matured.

So far there are no permanent rules concerning a specific age by which a person’s wisdom teeth have to be extracted. Wisdom teeth can be pulled out successfully at any age. On the other hand, a dentist would delay wisdom tooth extractions until at the point when the root structure of the teeth has got a chance to form. The dentist would wish to wait because the tooth is too undeveloped thus it can be difficult for the dentist to manipulate. When the dentist waits until the tooth’s roots have fully formed; the difficulty of the extraction will be more complex.

The best age for extracting wisdom teeth should not be below eighteen and above twenty four. This is because at this age there is greater likelihood that the roots of the teeth will not yet be fully formed and the bone round the teeth will be less dense. Again younger people are typically more resilient than comparatively older people hence healing process is always less involved for them. A dentist can clearly ascertain that there are good reasons as to why a person should have their wisdom teeth removed and they feel the age is right for the procedure, then it is always better to go ahead and have the extraction performed as soon as is reasonably convenient.
